Higher Education Program

The scholarship grant is provided to encourage all Alaska Native/American Indians to continue their education and enhance their future potential and to disseminate college/university information. Eligible applicants who have been accepted into an accredited college or university post secondary program, four-year undergraduate degree or graduate degree program can receive up to $2,000.00 per semester based on their need. Applicants must be enrolled members or direct descendants eligible for enrollment with the following villages: Cantwell, Gakona, Tazlina with one-quarter Indian blood quantum or those students of one-fourth or more degree of Indian blood who reside near those villages, and are not enrolled in another tribal government or receiving funds from another tribal government and have not applied for other Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Higher Education funds with another non-profit organization.

Adult Vocational Training

The Adult Vocational Training Award is to assist Alaska Native/American Indians to obtain job skills, certification and information needed to gain reasonable and satisfactory full-time employment. Applicants must have been accepted into an approved vocational training or apprenticeship program and have reasonable assurance of a job offer upon completing the training. Funding awards are disbursed directly to the school or training institution and applied towards tuition, fees, course-required books or supplies, and on-campus room and board.

Direct Employment

To assist Alaska Native/American Indians who have entered new employment and are in need of work appropriate clothing, licenses, union dues, etc. The new employment opportunity must be at least 20 hours per week for 12 months, or 20 hours per week for 3 months for seasonal employment. Direct Employment Assistance can be applied for two times and there is a maximum $500.00 lifetime limit. You must not have received funding from any other tribal or non-profit organization for the same purpose.

Scholarships

The deadline for scholarships Is Fall – September 5, 2013, Spring – January 5, 2014, Summer – June 5, 2014.
