Elder Services

We look to our honored Elders for guidance and value their rich historical knowledge. Their health is of utmost priority, and this year we launched an Elder Services Network, a broad, cross-functional team that meets on a bi-weekly basis to coordinate the care and services provided to every single Elder.

Our Elder Services Network provides Elders, ages 62 and older, with comprehensive, coordinated, high-quality care in the comfort of their own homes. This program holds many benefits beyond providing food. It enhances the quality of life of our Elders, as well as the entire community, by giving more opportunities for Elders to share their knowledge and pass on the history and traditions of our people.

Hours of operation: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

Our network allows our tribal elders to remain independent. Program staff visit regularly with the elders and can identify a change in status or behavior and make appropriate referrals when necessary. They can be a vital link between the elder and community service providers. An expected outcome for the Elder Services Network is to improve the overall health, quality of life, and independence of the elder and to provide access to services, necessary referrals, and regular nutritious meals. Supportive services include providing information and referrals, offering assistance in the home, transportation, social, cultural, and recreation services. The purpose of each of the services offered is to contribute to the welfare of our elderly tribal members.

Programs

Meals Program

Good nutrition is critical to good health—no matter what your age. Studies show that the right diet and adequate intake are especially important for older people and that poor nutrition is the biggest threat to an older adult’s independence.  Our program offers tasty and nutritious meals in a congregate setting to qualified elders who are 55 or older.   We also offer bus service to and from the elders’ kitchen.

Homemaker Services

Our elder support crew assists in helping to reinforce a more independent lifestyle for elders that wish to remain in their homes.  Homemaker services include basic home upkeep like laundry, dishes, vacuuming, cleaning of floors and the bathroom and socialization engagement.

Maintenance Services

Through our maintenance department, our Elders have access to the following services; water haul, snowplowing and chimney cleaning.
