Educational Assistance
Higher Education Scholarships (For Cantwell & Gakona Only)
- To receive a higher education scholarship:
- Must be at least 18, unless graduated at 17 years of age.
- Enrolled in an accredited college which would lead to a degree in an employable field.
- High school transcripts for first year students.
- College transcripts
- Budget forecast
- Letter stating educational goals
- Scholarship award amounts are based in need predicted from the Budget Forecast, but are typically:
- Max $2,000 per semester for full-time students
- Max $1,000 per semester for part-time students
Adult Vocational Training (For Cantwell & Gakona Only)
- Your Responsibilities:
- Complete the required application
- Submit monthly progress reports
- Maintain a grade point average of 2.0
- Adult Vocational Trainings must be:
- Accredited by a recognizable national regional; accredited association
- Or approved by the state agency
- Or offered through Indian Tribal Governments that show reasonable expectations of leading to employment
Apprenticeships
- Tribal Community Services can assist you to find programs, apply and pay for apprenticeships all over Alaska.
- An Apprenticeship must:
- Lead to employment and require the use of skills that normally are learned through training on the job.
Other Services
- Educational Development anything from obtaining your General Education Diploma (GED) to vocational grants or higher education scholarships. (Some restrictions apply)
Childcare Assistance
Children
- Who is Eligible
- Children under the age of 13
- Resides in the service area comprised of the following villages: Cantwell, Chitna, Gakona, Gulkana, Kluti-Kaah, Mentasta, and Tazlina.
- Children who have special needs or are considered disabled.
Providers
- Requirements to be a provider?
- Must be 18 years of age
- Have a negative TB Test
- Pass a background check
- What is required?
- Alaska Business License
- Alaska Drivers License or state ID Card.
- CPR and First Aide Certification.
- For males, Proof of Registration with the Selective Service.
- Completed required training within 30 days of becoming a provider.
- CRNA will pay for your services.
- Payments follow CRNA’s payroll schedule, permitting all documentation is submitted on time.
- Meet with the Workforce Development Administrative Assistant or Life Skills Coach at CRNA for an application.
- Submit a complete application.
Parents
- Who is eligible?
- Must be employed, attending training or school.
- Reside in the service area of the 5 compacting villages.
- Income must not exceed up to 85% of the Grantee medium income.
- Must be tribally enrolled or eligible for tribal enrollment.
- Must complete a State of Alaska Child Care assistance application, and the CRNA integrated services application.
Workforce Development
- What is this?
- Funds that can be used to assist in the costs of training and development to help individuals to become gainfully employed.
- Who is eligible?
- Must be tribally enrolled or eligible for tribal enrollment with Cantwell, Gakona, Gulkana, Kluti-Kaah or Tazlina.
- Reside in the service area of one of these five compacted villages.
Direct Employment
- What is this?
- An award that can be used to purchase items needed to continue employment.
- Lifetime cap of $500.00, which can be accessed two times.
- Who is eligible?
- Must be tribally enrolled or eligible for tribal enrollment with Cantwell, Gakona or Kluti-Kaah
- Must show proof of guaranteed employment.

- Meet with the Workforce Development Administrative Assistant or Life Skills Coach for an application and more information.
